My student Bella just graduated from one of my technical exercise written for beginners to intermediate level string players called "Ambulance Practice". To honor her great achievement, I thought it would be appropriate to post a portion of our lesson practicing/learning this exercise. It is 4 beats down bow and 4 beats up bow strokes for each variation (equals to whole note bow stroke for each direction) with 52 metronome per beat.
Variation I - tapping 2 x 8 notes per beat (4 beats down - 4 beats up bow) duplets
Variation II - tapping 3 x 8 notes per beat (4 beats down - 4 beats up bow) triplets
Variation III - tapping 4 x 16 notes per beat (4 beats down - 4 beats up bow) quadruplets
Variation IV - tapping 6 x 16 notes per beat (4 beats down - 4 beats up bow) six-tuples
Variation V - tapping 8 x 32 notes per beat (4 beats down - 4 beats up bow) eight-tuples

Shreya took lessons from me about 5 successful years. Her intonation, bow control and posture with great left hand technique is remarkable.
Your parents and I very proud of you Shreya.

Fran has started taking violin lesson from me about 10 years ago from scratch. Over the years she has improved incredibly with her hard work practice and her continues commitment to weekly lessons with me. Now she not only reads music, but can also play some of the standard violin repertoire such as Handel, Bach, Beethoven.
Wonderful recital playing. Bravo Fran! I am very proud of your progress.
